The legs are pushed up to the shoulders and the hips lift off the bed, fixed in place. With nowhere to escape, the receiver is covered by the partner’s full weight, the spine arching at the sensation of reaching the deepest point. An intent to “let no one go, take all of it” is written into the way the body is pinned down. Tanetsuke press, the breeding press, names a posture in which the supine receiver’s legs are folded hard against the shoulders or chest, folding the body screen-like, while the penetrating partner bears weight from directly above for deep penetration. In the broad sense it is the deepest form of the flexion position, staged together with creampie and pregnancy themes.

Overview

The breeding press is not an independent classical posture but a slang name attached after the fact to an extreme form of the flexion position. The receiver’s knees are folded back beside the face, or deeper than the shoulders, with the pelvis tilted to its maximum. The penetrating partner sets their body between the receiver’s knees, pinning the legs with their own torso while pressing chest to chest. The line of penetration runs nearly straight down, reaching toward the cervix at a direct angle.

The core of the name is “breeding” (tanetsuke). A term for the artificial mating of livestock was carried into sexual vocabulary to mean “the final posture aimed at impregnation.” “Press” marks the act of pinning the receiver so they cannot escape. From the 1990s “tanetsuke” appeared in anime and doujin tied to a strong intent of ejaculation, and across the late 2000s into the 2010s “tanetsuke press” settled in as a posture name.

Naming

“Tanetsuke” entered the language from animal husbandry, where Edo-period records of horse and cattle breeding already used the term, and it persists as a technical word for livestock breeding. Its transfer into sexual expression appeared sporadically in postwar erotic fiction and adult manga as a euphemism for impregnation. The compound “tanetsuke press” spread as a general term around 2010, when the impregnation motif grew into a major genre in adult doujin and anime and the deepest flexion posture demanded a name of its own. Commercial AV already used terms such as the “rolled-up” posture and the flexion position, but those are named for angle and visibility, not for the intent to impregnate.

In English the same posture is called the mating press, a usage that settled in during the late 2010s through the export of Japanese anime and adult games. On pixiv and X (formerly Twitter) the Japanese and English tags ran in parallel and hardened into a genre label through mutual translation.

Posture and mechanics

From supine, the receiver draws both knees deep toward the chest until the ankles sit beside the shoulders or ears. The pelvis tilts to its maximum and the anterior vaginal wall faces the ceiling. The penetrating partner rests weight on the backs of the receiver’s knees or shins and presses chest to chest, the faces close enough for eye contact and breath to mix. Penetration runs nearly straight down, with direct stimulation near the cervix. It shares deep reach with the flexion position and the rolled-up posture, but the breeding press emphasizes the structure in which the penetrator’s weight keeps the receiver physically pinned.

Because the posture demands flexibility, it is not one everyone can hold; in AV it is often used as a brief insert of tens of seconds to a few minutes. Doujin art, free of those constraints, tends to exaggerate the extremity of the pose.

Staging

The posture itself reads as the endpoint of creampie and pregnancy staging. The structure of pinning weight visualizes the intent to “let no one go and finish deep inside.” A deeper push at the moment of ejaculation, a hand laid on the receiver’s belly, sweat-slick contact, and the “continued breeding press” that holds the posture afterward to prevent spillage have all become standardized as a vocabulary of climax in impregnation works. In pregnant-belly titles, the press scene is connected in the same work to the confirmation of pregnancy.

In doujin and adult anime the breeding press recurs as a climax pose: the folded legs and the overhanging silhouette crop neatly into a vertical panel and work well as a spread or title page. The pixiv tags for “tanetsuke press” and “mating press” have held high search positions into the 2020s. Commercial AV has increasingly titled works directly with “tanetsuke” and “haramase,” embedding the press as a climax posture in married-woman, cuckolding and training works.

Adjacent postures

As the deepest form of the flexion position, the breeding press is technically a variant of it; the difference is focus. The flexion position is named for geometry (the bend of the canal, deep reach), the breeding press for intent (pinning, impregnation). The rolled-up posture lifts the hips and tips the legs toward the head, geometrically close, but emphasizes “showing” and “exposing” where the press emphasizes “pushing in” and “not letting go.” Many works set up a continuous deepening from the missionary position through flexion to the breeding press at climax, visualizing the staged progression of the act.

The appeal turns on intent inscribed in the posture itself. A change of position mid-act is ordinary, but the shift to the breeding press is coded as a declaration: “from here, in earnest.” For the receiver it signals “the time you will not be let go,” and for the penetrator the resolve to “give all of it.” The viewer reads this crossing of intentions from composition and movement.
