Droopy-eyes fetish (tareme)
✎ 本文編集 (admin) 🖼 画像編集 (admin)The outer corner of the eye flows slightly downward. Even in a neutral face, where it is hard to tell whether the person is angry or smiling, something reads as soft, as if they might forgive you. That impression alone loosens one’s guard. The droopy-eyes fetish (たれ目フェチ, tareme-fechi) is the strong aesthetic or sexual pull felt toward a person with “tareme,” eyes whose outer corners slope downward.
What tareme is
Anatomically, tareme is the state in which the line connecting the inner and outer corners of the eye tilts slightly below horizontal, the outer corner sitting lower than the inner. It is determined by inborn bone structure and the balance of the orbital muscles and the lateral canthal ligament, and increases with age. The opposite state is tsurime (upturned eyes), giving the opposite impression. It runs on an axis independent of monolid versus double eyelid, and both monolid and double-lidded tareme exist.
Mechanism
Tareme works as a kink almost entirely through impression. The downward curve resembles the movements of “soft” emotions: lowered brows of sorrow, the corners dropping in a smile, the downcast eyes of bashfulness. A person with tareme, even at rest, continually emits a faint signal of these gentle emotions.
This “always looking slightly kind” quality binds to feelings of reassurance, warmth, and healing, working strongly as an object of affection. The impression of being non-aggressive, non-hostile, likely to forgive, operates as appeal without ever being put into words. In sexual contexts, tareme is often linked to receptiveness, sweetness, and yielding; the further drop of the outer corner in a troubled face, the loveliness when the eyes moisten, the softness in blushing, all come out more strongly than in tsurime, drawing the urge to make the person flustered, to make them cry, to protect them.
In character design
In manga, anime, and games, tareme is a standard sign assigned to soft, airheaded, soothing, big-sister, motherly, and clingy character types: the kind childhood friend, the caring senior, the clumsy maid, the busty easygoing type. Visually it is produced by lowering the upper-lid line slightly toward the outer corner, leaving space below the iris, and angling the lash flow downward; emphasising the tear-bag amplifies the gentle impression. Recent designs treat tareme as part of an integrated eye design including highlight placement and lash length.
In live-action adult media, droopy-eyed performers are often cast in healing-type, married-woman, busty-easygoing, and widow premises. Their gentleness suits a performance built on warmth, and they frequently take the lead in situational works.
Tareme makeup
“Tareme makeup” became established as a Japanese makeup trend from the 2010s. Flowing the eyeliner downward at the outer corner, adding shadow to the outer lower lid, and layering false lashes downward produce a tareme-leaning impression regardless of natural shape, answering the demand to be seen as gentle and approachable. Conversely, for those who want a tsurime-leaning look, “cat-eye makeup” is the standard option, and the two stand as the two great directions of impression-control.
Adjacent kinks
Tareme fetish is one wing of the cluster of kinks for differences of impression created by the angle and shape of the eyes, discussed together with tsurime fetish, monolid fetish, fox-eye, and moist-eye fetish. Tareme and tsurime are placed at opposite poles in character design, but at the level of preference many enthusiasts say they like both, so the division is not mutually exclusive.
