The younger colleague, the person who should by every social rule defer, never uses polite speech, not once from start to finish. No “-san,” just the bare name; no “could you please,” just “do it.” There is no malice in it; they do it perfectly naturally. And one notices oneself allowing it. The casual-speech fetish (タメ口フェチ, tameguchi-fechi) is the attraction to being addressed in broken-down, informal speech by someone who would normally be expected to use polite forms.

Concept

Tameguchi is speech that drops the honorific system (polite, respectful, and humble registers) in favour of the forms used between equals or intimates. Japanese sociolinguistics treats the quantity of honorifics as keyed almost automatically to social hierarchy of age, affiliation, and rank, so that “a relationship where tameguchi is possible” itself functions as a sign of intimacy.

What the fetish targets is the partner who deliberately oversteps that norm: a younger woman who addresses an older man without honorifics, a junior who speaks casually to a senior, a student who talks loosely to a teacher, a stranger who closes the distance from the first meeting. The asymmetry of these situations is the core.

Mechanism

The essence is the reversal of status and register. The listener is socially superior, yet in the exchange of speech the speaker holds the initiative. This twisted structure produces in the listener a vicarious sense of being the one dominated.

The fetish sits as the mirror image of the polite-speech fetish (keigo): the keigo fetish is the pleasure of superiority, of being served by a partner who keeps their place; the tameguchi fetish is the pleasure of submission, of being toyed with by a partner who collapses that place. The same younger-woman character read as a serving heroine when she keeps polite speech is read as a cheeky-junior heroine when she keeps tameguchi.

How the casual speech registers depends on the accompanying tone. Bright, untroubled tameguchi produces a frank, familiar childhood-friend feeling; blunt, barbed tameguchi strengthens the appeal of the younger-sadist tsundere or little-devil type; cold, curt tameguchi connects directly to the younger-cool, deadpan-stare type.

In fiction and audio works

In adult audio works, types such as “boyish junior,” “cheeky underclassman,” and “casual-speech childhood friend” are a settled genre, with voice actors performing the light register of younger characters across continuing series. Circle works frequently feature a little-devil little sister who keeps tameguchi while calling the protagonist “onii-chan,” or a junior who uses casual speech while addressing him as “senpai.”

In dating sims and bishoujo games, the heroine who speaks casually has long functioned as a sign of accessibility and approachability, deployed to compress the early-game distance and accelerate affection-building. In live-action adult audio and video, casual-speech settings are used in boyish, gal, and junior premises, where loose lines stage an intimacy that deliberately breaks down the gap of age and status.

Variations and adjacent kinks

Tameguchi fetish has gradations: full bare-name address with casual speech throughout; a mix of polite speech and dialect-inflected casual speech; speech that starts polite and breaks down partway; or content that stays polite while only the meaning turns cheeky. The cohort that prefers “the process of polite speech breaking into tameguchi” is large, valuing the deepening of a relationship made visible through a shift in register. Adjacent kinks include the younger-domination type, the cheekiness of voice, and the little-devil fetish; tameguchi fetish is usually received bundled with these rather than standing alone.
